Professional background

Yuliya Kosyakova is head of the Research Department “Migration, Integration and International Labour Studies” since January 2023 (together with Herbert Brücker) and is Professor for Migration Research at the Otto-Friedrich-University Bamberg.

She was a Senior Researcher at IAB (between 2016–2022) and associate lecturer at the University of Bamberg (2020–2022) and University of Manheim (2019–2020). She studied Economics (European Economic Studies, MSc) at the University of Bamberg and received her PhD in Sociology at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence in 2016. Between 2011 and 2016, she was a part of the research team on the ERC-funded international comparative research project ‘Education as a Lifelong Process – Comparing Educational Trajectories in Modern Societies’ (eduLIFE) at the Department of Social and Political Science (SPS) in the European University Institute.

Her main research interests relate to labor market and employment research, migration and refugee research, international comparison, social stratification, gender inequality, life course research, and interviewer fraud.
