Seeing your religion - Regional variation of discrimination and racism towards muslims on the German labor market
Project duration: 01.04.2022 to 31.12.2024
Abstract
The project deals with the experiences of Muslim migrants and refugees on the German labour market. Previous literature has identified disadvantages for Muslim immigrants in the German labour market. The predecessor project "Showing your Religion", which was funded in the first year of the National Monitoring of Racism, dealt with experiences of discrimination and coping strategies of Muslims in the German labour market. The focus in this follow-up project will be primarily on hiring decisions by employers, attitudes towards services (e.g. restaurants, snack bars, supermarkets) perceived as Muslim and the impact of recent refugee immigration on the career paths of other Muslim people. In particular, the challenges of Muslim women will be examined. The role of regional factors, such as unemployment rates, for differences in employers' recruitment decisions will also be analysed in more detail. The project is part of the Research Association on Discrimination and Racism (FoDiRa) of the DeZIM research community.
