Gender Studies
Working Group
Tasks
It is the function and aim of this Working Group to identify and deal with issues relating to the inequality between women and men vis-à-vis the labour market. To do this, it uses both the social science and economics research approach existing at IAB.
Here it is not merely a matter of examining the requirements and possibilities of integrating women better, and more permanently, into the labour market; what is also to be assessed, for instance, is the need for intervention in areas where (young) men now encounter more problems in the labour market than (young) women. The analyses undertaken will not only investigate the qualitative and quantitative differences between women and men on the labour market but will also extend to the influence of existing structures on the reproduction of socially and culturally determined ways of living and working.
The Working Group will begin by pinpointing and pooling the know-how available at IAB in the various different fields of research and by expanding interfaces and instances of cooperation, both internally and externally. This is the reason why all Research and organizational Departments of IAB are represented in this Working Group.
The discussion of specific issues, research activities and research proposals throughout the entire Institute is intended to contribute in the long run to firmly anchoring the gender mainstreaming approach within the Institute's research programme.
