Refugee women in different household constellations: Women without a partner and without children are more likely to participate in the labour market

Abstract

"This IAB-short report provides a differentiated view of the situation of refugee women depending on their household situation. While the majority of women who fled to Germany between 2013 and mid-2019 lives with a partner and children in the household, a substantial share also lives either alone, with a partner and without children or as single mothers. Women without a partner and without children are the most likely to participate in the labour market: These refugee women are 11 percentage points more likely to be employed than women who live with a partner and children in the household."
