Revisiting Test Administrator Effects in Large-Scale Educational Assessments on Mathematical Competence
Beschreibung
"In large-scale educational assessments, ensuring standardized administration by test administrators is crucial. While these assessments play a significant role in basic research and in forming educational policies, few studies explored the potential impact of test administrators on competence scores and comprehensive research in this area remains sparse. In this study, we revisit the possibility of test administrators influencing student performance in the assessment of mathematical competence. Using data from the National Educational Panel Study and implementing Bayesian multilevel modeling to account for the cross-classified data structure, we explore whether test administrator effects occur in different secondary school types in Germany. Our findings indicate that variations in student mathematical competence scores were mainly due to differences between schools and that the role of test administrators is negligible. The results reinforce the consistency of large-scale assessments and underscore the minimal impact of test administrators" (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
