Long-term projections of labour supply in Germany
Beschreibung
"The aim of this paper is to give an overview of some important aspects of manpower supply. Attention has been paid to the background and methodology of the labour force approach. The relevance of labour supply projections has to be seen within an entire information system of the labour market. To determine the quantity of jobs needed one must first calculate how many people want to participate in the labour market. The labour force, defined as the gainfully employed plus the registered unemployed, shows the overall supply of labour to the economy, and it gives an answer to the question of how far a specific labour market situation has moved from a previous observed high employment situation by comparison with the demand for labour. The number of unemployed surely is one of the most important figures for an economie evaluation of the labour market. Therefore, projections of the labour force, often disaggregated by gender and age, are produced and published regularly for probably every country. The present paper deals with. the labour force concept used by the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) and recently-published IAB labour force projections." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
