The effect of nonresponse and measurement error on wage regression across survey modes

Beschreibung

"This chapter examines the differential effects of nonresponse and measurement error on regression coefficients by comparing a web survey to a telephone survey administration. More specifically, we investigate the effects of these different error sources on a wage regression comparing survey and administrative data for a large-scale mixed-mode survey. The key feature of this study is the availability of administrative register data from annual employer reports to the social security in Germany that are available for all sample cases. (...) Section 24.2 briefly reviews the implications and sources of bias in regression coefficients. Section 24.3 introduces the relevant data and provides information on the nature of biases encountered in mean estimates of the WCG. Assumptions and limitations of the data are discussed, and the analytic strategy is outlined. The main results for each mode are presented in Section 24.4. Section 24.5 discusses the findings and the implications for future research." (Text excerpt, IAB-Doku) ((en))
