Professional background

Silke Anger has been Head of the Research Department “Education, Training, and Employment Over the Life Course” at the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) since 2013. Since 2016 she shares her position in a work-sharing with Ute Leber. Since 2013, Silke Anger is Professor of Economics, in particular the Economics of Education, at the Otto Friedrich University of Bamberg. She studied economics at the University of Bamberg and the University of South Carolina, Columbia, from 1995 to 2001. Afterwards, she was active as a research and teaching assistant at the Humboldt University Berlin where she received her doctoral degree in economics in 2005. From 2005 to 2013 she was research associate at the German Institute for Economic Research, and completed her post-doctoral qualification (Habilitation) at the Humboldt University Berlin in 2013. During her doctoral and post-doctoral studies she spent long-term research visits to the University of Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, the University of Stirling, and at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Silke Anger has been a Research Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) since 2011. She has been a member of the standing field committee “Economics of Education” of the “Verein für Socialpolitik” since 2015, and since 2017 a Research Fellow of the Research Centre for Education and the Labour Market (ROA) at Maastricht University.
She is a member of various scientific committees, including the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies (DZHW). In addition, together with Prof. Jutta Allmendinger, she is the scientific head of the sub-study "Adult Education and Lifelong Learning" of the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS).
