Central findings on current labour market topics

Abstract

"The local development of the labour market is not only remarkable from the comparison of time; from the perspective of international comparison it likewise shows a history of considerable success. At the same time there are also weak points and risks. For instance, here in Germany the inheritance of poor education and poor labour market chances is keenly marked. And, as an exporting economy, Germany cannot uncouple itself from international political and economic developments.
In addition, German labour market policy is facing great challenges for other reasons: in particular, it is a question of shaping work in the digitalised world, of reducing long-term unemployment even further, of improving upward mobility, of securing qualified labour and of supporting the labour market integration of refugees.
The results of the research work carried out by IAB are summarised in the newly issued and expanded IAB brochure 'Central findings on current labour market topics'. Along with locating the German labour market, also in an international context, it gives an overview of the topics: structure of employment, securing qualified staff, unemployment and drawing benefits, education and career, as well as on labour market policy measures."
