Professional background

Jan Gellermann studied Social Work with an interdisciplinary focus on planning and evaluation of social services and counselling.
He conducted research in projects on the qualification of female migrants receiving SGB II benefits, on marriage and family migration and on young people with difficulties in the transition to working life, so-called “disconnected youth”, at the Chair of Social Policy and General Sociology II of the University of Siegen. At the same time, he was a lecturer in the Social Sciences and Social Work degree programmes (2012–2019).
In 2017, Jan Gellermann completed his doctorate in sociology (Dr. phil.) at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University Siegen.
His main scientific focal points at the IAB are qualification and labour market integration of long-term unemployed people, publicly funded employment, coaching and holistic support in SGB II, implementation analyses and evaluations of labour market programmes, qualitative-reconstructive social research.
Dr. Jan Gellermann is currently researching the Participation Opportunities Act (Teilhabechancengesetz) (Section 16 e, Section 16i SGB II).
