Professional background

Wolfgang Dauth is head of the Research Department "Regional Labour Markets" and Professor of Regional Labor Economics at the Otto Friedrich University in Bamberg. Prior to this position, he was assistant professor of empirical regional and international economics at the University of Wuerzburg since October 2014 and researcher at the IAB. He studied economics at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg from 2003 to 2008. He then received a scholarship at the joint graduate programme of the IAB and the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, where he has been awarded his doctorate degree in July 2012. In 2011 and 2014, he worked as a visiting scholar at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, USA.
His research lies at the cross-section of labor economics and the fields of Urban-/Regional Economics and International Economics. In particular, he focuses on the adjustment of individual workers to the impacts of technological change, globalization, and the structural consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Wolfgang Dauth is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA) and a member of the board of associate editors of the Journal of Regional Science and of the committee for regional economics of the Verein für Socialpolitik.
