Development of commuting distances before and after the digitalisation push triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Project duration: 01.08.2024 to 31.12.2025
Abstract
Commuting distances have been on the rise for years. The Covid-19 pandemic forced many companies to significantly expand working from home or even enable it for the first time. This has remained common practice even after the end of the pandemic, particularly for activities that require little presence at the workplace. On the one hand, this development has the potential to relieve the pressure on large cities and reduce commuting costs through the use of home offices. On the other hand, companies in more peripheral locations can also benefit if they succeed in attracting workers who live further away by offering an appropriate home office regulation.
