Professional background

After attending intermediate secondary school, Volker Kotte completed a "dual system" of training to become a forest manager while gaining his upper school leaving certificate (Abitur) via evening classes. From 1993 to 1995 he took his foundation course in educational science and sociology at Bielefeld University. Mr Kotte worked as a junior employee of the Federal Employment Agency (Diplom Verwaltungswirt/FH) between 1995 and 1998 and subsequently as a job placement officer and career advisor at the Employment Office in Lübeck. Parallel to this, Mr Kotte studied educational science and sociology at the distance learning university of Hagen receiving his BA in educational science in 2001 and his MA in educational sciences/sociology in 2004). He has been a member of IAB Northern Germany in Kiel since 2005. In 2012 he received his doctorate (Dr. phil.) in educational science from the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel.
