Professional background

Dr Alexander Patzina studied geography and economics (B.A.) and social economics (M.Sc.) at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen–Nuremberg (FAU).

Since 2014, he has been a researcher at the Institute for Employment Research (IAB). He was a visiting researcher at the Centre for Quantitative Social Science at University College London (UCL) in 2018 and an Honorary Research Fellow at the UCL Institute of Education from 2019 to 2022. He received his doctorate from FAU in 2019.

Since April 2022, he has been an assistant professor (Akademischer Rat) at the Chair of Sociology, with a focus on Social Inequality, at the University of Bamberg, and since March 2024 a postdoctoral fellow of the Daimler and Benz Foundation. In the winter semester 2024/25, he served as a substitute professor of Sociology (Social Stratification and Social Policy) at Goethe University Frankfurt.
