The labour market and the world of work are in constant flux. Consequently, trades unions and employer bodies, politicians, labour market policymakers and careers consultants require reliable information and recommendations for action that are based on sound scientific advice. And so does the general public. The IAB provides this in a format that is tailored to each target group. For the research community, for example, it publishes the findings of its research in professional journals and in its own publications.
The comprehensive research findings that the IAB makes available to its target groups in various media formats include analyses of the effects of labour market policy and careers advice, as well as studies into long-term trends such as demographic change and digitalisation or more immediate events such as Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings include recommended courses of action for policymakers and front-line staff based on thorough research.
The IAB takes part in public discourse and provides journalists with answers to their questions, supported by its empirical research. The institute also provides up-to-date information on labour market research and policy to the general public, to trades unions and employer bodies, to policymakers and to the research community.
It uses communication channels ranging from workshops, conferences and freely accessible literature to information online and in social media. The IAB operates with a comprehensive open-access policy.
