Professional background

Veronika J. Knize studied social sciences with a focus on sociology at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú in Lima. Subsequently, she pursued a master's degree in sociology at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg. With her master's thesis titled "Migrant women labor-force participation: human capital, segmented labor market, and gender perspectives," she won the IPRAS Prize from the Institute of Sociology at FAU for the best master's thesis in 2017. During her master's studies, she worked as a research assistant in the areas of "Basic Income and Activation" and "Forecasts and Macroeconomic Analyses" at the IAB. Since October 2018, she has been working as a researcher in the field of "Basic Income Support and Activation." In 2023, she earned her doctoral degree in Social Sciences from FAU. The title of her dissertation was "Selectivity and the effects of activation policies: gender, human capital, and social origin differences in the German welfare state.” Her research interests include gender and the welfare state, active labor market policies, and intergenerational transmission of inequalities.
