Since March 2000, a Scientific Advisory Council (Wissenschaftlicher Beirat) composed of experts in the field of labour market research from Germany and other countries has been monitoring and examining the work of the IAB at least twice a year. The manner in which the Advisory Council has been assembled vis-à-vis specialist fields mirrors the multidisciplinary approach that characterizes labour market and occupational research at IAB.
As the name implies, the Scientific Advisory Council primarily has the function of offering advice. During its visits, overall concepts of academic research are discussed, together with individual methodological questions and strategies of scientific procedure. In addition to this, it constitutes a forum in which Research Departments can present the latest results of their research programmes along with their most important projects.
