Following her PhD at the University of St. Gallen in 2008, Conny Wunsch worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the Swiss Institute for Empirical Economic Research, and since 2009, also as an assistant professor of Economics at the University of St. Gallen. In 2011, she assumed part-time associate professorship at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU), and as from September 2012, she switched to full-time work. Since September 2013, Wunsch has been a professor of Labour Economics at the Faculty of Business and Economics, University of Basel.

Core areas of research are evaluation and optimal arrangement of labour market-related measures for the unemployed, the role of expectations in job-seeking as well as for the effectiveness and optimal arrangement of labour market-related measures, incentives of unemployment insurance for the employees and unemployed, optimal arrangement of unemployment insurance, interaction between different pillars of social insurance, effects of demographic development on the labour market, and labour and health.
