Quality of Employment

Working Group

Tasks

One of the topics of IAB's research since 2011, among others, has been the quality of employment. IAB has, for example, examined the quality of (subsidized) employment contracts during the transition from unemployment to employment. Along with this, a number of research projects deal with the development of forms of "atypical" employment – such as part-time work, temporary agency work, or temporary employment – analysing their determinants and effects. Thirdly, the connection between increasing international intertwining and the quality of employment is being studied.

The Working Group "Quality of Employment" sees itself as a forum for the presentation of current and planned research on the subject. Its aim is to bring together and discuss the current status of research. The first question to be dealt with is the way in which the quality of work and employment manifests itself: along with objective indicators (such as income, length of contract, or working time) the subjective perceptions of the employed (such as perceived security of employment, autonomy, workloads, and job satisfaction) also form a further focal point.

The intention is to achieve an overview of available data sources and to identify further needs for research by way of interdisciplinary exchange. To this purpose, the Working Group is also in contact with external researchers and other research institutes.
