The current geopolitical situation and increasing protectionism are having a detrimental impact on Germany’s international trade relations and on those of the European Union as a whole. The strong euro and uncertainty about US import tariffs are putting a strain on the export sector, and now there is added uncertainty about the course of the war in Iran. Rising energy prices adversely affect the economy and are dampening purchasing power. Economic expectations for the next few months have already slumped for the US, the eurozone and for China. Economic weakness also remains evident in the labour market.
