The Research-Focused Resource Management (WRM) service department supports IAB’s research activities through the proactive, efficient and quality-assured provision of central resources. Its aim is to create and maintain the best possible long-term framework for excellent scientific research.

The department has an in-depth understanding of scientific work processes, which shapes its activities. Its main priorities are the staffing of the IAB and the provision of the necessary financial resources.

It uses a recruitment process and system of professional development based on scientific standards to attract and retain outstanding executive staff, researchers and supporting team members working in science-related roles. Employees have access to high-quality training and professional development tools that are geared to the needs of an international research institute. Ensuring the ongoing professional development of all staff is a pivotal element of institutional quality assurance.

Cooperation agreements with universities aimed at establishing endowed professorships for executive staff at IAB with post-doctoral qualifications cement the link between research and teaching. WRM oversees the IAB’s graduate programme, which supports young researchers during their doctoral studies.

We offer students insights into our organisation and the opportunity to work in our research units and service departments as student or research assistants or as part of our intern programme.

Planning, coordinating and running scientific events, conferences and workshops is another important part of our work to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and to build networks between researchers at national and international level. The WRM service department is responsible for the overall coordination of organisational planning and support for these events.

The department is responsible for maintaining an efficient infrastructure and dependable working conditions.

WRM provides end-to-end control and management of the HR budget from various funding sources. This also includes planning and accounting for staffing and other costs in projects funded by third parties. Parallel planning and management of the research budget and other non-personnel budget items enable WRM to provide the research and service departments with consistent support for the overall financing of their research projects and topics.
