Employment in Tight Labor Markets

Abstract
The analysis examines the impact of wages and labor market tightness (i.e. the ratio of vacancies to job seekers) on labor demand in German establishments. We use our regression results to quantify the employment effects of the introduction of the statutory minimum wage in 2015 and the increase in labor shortages over the past decade. The regressions are based on the Employment History (BeH)for the years 2012-2019.
