Professional background

Katia Gallegos Torres completed her bachelor’s degree in economics at the Universidad del Pacífico in Lima, Peru, and her master’s degree at the University of Mannheim.

After her studies, she worked as a researcher at the Chair of Econometrics at the University of Mannheim and at the Center for Evaluation and Development in Mannheim.

She has been a researcher in the research area “Migration, Integration and International Labor Market Research (INTER)” at the IAB since December 2023. Since October 2019, she has also been a researcher at ZEW Mannheim, in the junior research group “IMES” (Integration of Migrants and Attitudes Towards the Welfare State). She is currently pursuing her doctorate at the University of Innsbruck.

Her research interests are in political economy, migration and labor economics, with a focus on the labour market integration of refugees and the effects of immigration on local labour markets.
