Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine and the resulting increases in energy prices have been having a clear impact on the labour market, the economy and society since 2022, leading to surging inflation and significant interest-rate hikes. The war has also caused huge numbers of people to flee Ukraine, many of whom have come to Germany.
The IAB is undertaking various research projects to examine the consequences of this situation. The issues under investigation include the economic impact and the effects on trade flows, international networks and supply chain disruptions. Another key focus of the IAB’s current research is on Ukrainian refugees in the context of labour market integration, social inclusion and the recognition of professional qualifications.
