Internship at IAB
What is it like to work at a research institution? What steps are necessary to get from an idea to conclusive research results? We provide comprehensive insight into practical research work at our institution for interested students.
Join us for an internship of up to three months and work together with our researchers on projects in one of our 15 research facilities. Your internship will be rich in variety: routine scientific work from formulating a concrete topic for research and data collection to the evaluation and presentation of the results, or the high-quality input provided by the business units.
More than 50 students a year seize their chance of completing an internship with us. The Institute for Employment Research is always looking for highly motivated people who contribute their fresh ideas and their expertise to our teams.
We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated students primarily from the following disciplines:
- Economics
- Social sciences/Sociology
- Statistics
- Media and communication
- IT
- Workforce management/Psychology.
How to apply?

- Please state your time corridor and the desired duration of your internship (e.g. time corridor August to October, duration at least six weeks up to three months maximum).
- Please let us know if this is a voluntary internship or a mandatory internship.
- State up to three areas which interest you the most, with your favourite area named first.
- Don’t forget to enclose a current certificate of enrolment and a transcript of grades for your academic performance to date.
- If you are not an EU member, we also ask you to send us a valid work/residence permit.
Remuneration
Interns receive 800 EUR/month.

Student and research assistants at IAB
Although still a student at university, you are looking to gain some professional experience in empiric labour market research in particular or to gain some insight into the work in one of the IAB business units? Are you very interested in topics related to the labour market and social policy, would you like to learn more about qualitative social research, and are you looking to gain comprehensive know-how in the methodology of various research projects? Or are you perhaps interested in gathering your first professional experience at the crossroads with research within IAB?
More than 70 students every year seize the opportunity to actively work for an extended period of time on large-scale national and international research projects run by one of our 15 research facilities or to support one of our five business units in their activities. The usual workload is eight hours a week.
If you want to see what scientific work is like in practice, come and apply as a student assistant at IAB! Your vigour and know-how will be a welcome addition to our team.
We are looking for motivated students primarily from the following disciplines:

- Social sciences/Sociology

Requirements
- MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Confidence in English-language communication
- Additional requirement for research units: working knowledge of statistical programs (SPSS, STATA, etc.) would be a plus

Remuneration
Student assistants at IAB receive 13.25 EUR per hour. Research assistants with a bachelor’s degree (WHB) receive 14.25 EUR per hour.
