Book II of the Social Code and customer satisfaction: How recipients of unemployment benefit II evaluate the public employment service

Abstract

"The German Social Code II stresses the importance of an intensive guidance and support of the unemployed. This paper examines the evaluation of the public employment service by those receiving unemployment benefit II. The findings show that on average the unemployed are satisfied with the public employment service, although they do not expect their chances on the labour market to increase through counselling. Older unemployed persons describe their personal placement officers as 'friendly' and 'reliable' but do not believe in increasing employment opportunities. Although younger unemployed persons are more sceptical towards their placement officers, they trust that their chances on the labour market are comparably good." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
