Do Female Mayors Make a Difference? Evidence from Bavarian Municipalities
Project duration: 01.02.2013 to 10.07.2013
Abstract
We show that female mayors do not affect expenditure allocation or
local government size using a RD-design. We also examine whether
women are more likely reelected, a phenomenon that has previously been
interpreted as a sign that women are more able politicians. We show that
while women are more likely to win another election, women are also
more likely to run again, and that among re-runners, women actually
have an electoral disadvantage.
