Abstract

We implemented the 'Earnings Vignettes Module' What Do People Believe That Others (Should) Earn? Multifactorial Survey Experiments on Beliefs About Actual and Fair Earnings) in the SOEP Innovation Sample (SOEP-IS) 2019 and 2023. The SOEP-IS module 2023 was combined with an ifo-LMU HR/manager survey conducted during the same period. By comparing assessments of actual and fair compensation from the perspective of supply and demand, we can determine the extent to which the general public and managers agree on compensation systems.
