Reemployment, job quality and social exclusion
Project duration: 11.05.2022 to 31.12.2026
Abstract
Unemployment is one of the main risk factors for social exclusion. As numerous studies have shown, unemployment is associated with an increased individual risk of socio-economic deprivation and social isolation. Conversely, gainful employment plays a key role in preventing or overcoming social exclusion, as integration into working life facilitates access to material and social resources that are essential for social inclusion. The research project is dedicated to the less well-researched relevance of job quality for the inclusion effect of gainful employment. The focus of the study is on the transition from unemployment to employment. Using longitudinal data from the Panel Study Labour Market and Social Security (PASS), the extent to which the social inclusion - measured on the basis of objective dimensions and subjective assessments - of previously unemployed people after taking up employment is examined. We focus on the question of which aspects of job quality favor or rather inhibit positive inclusion effects of gainful employment.
