Macroeconomics of the labour market : the matching theory and the development of unemployment in Germany
Abstract
"In the macroeconomic analysis of the labour market, the matching theory is the dominant approach at the present time. In contrast to the neoclassical model of the labour market, it assumes the existence of search frictions. What it explains is the concurrent existence of open jobs and unemployment. This article provides an introduction into the matching theory, which is suitable for Bachelor courses, and shows how the development of unemployment in Germany can be interpreted within this framework."
