Pilot project for disadvantaged families: Intensive home visiting helps mothers and children

Abstract

"To support disadvantaged families with children younger than three, the National Center for Early Intervention was founded in 2007. One pilot project of the center is the 'Pro Kind' program in which families on welfare receive home visits beginning during pregnancy until the second birthday of the child. International studies investigating the effectiveness of home visiting programs for disadvantaged families show that these programs - besides a positive impact on child development - increase the labor market participation of the mothers. The author uses the pilot project 'Pro Kind' to examine whether these results are replicable in the German social state context." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
