Welfare benefit receipt in Germany : for some a permanent state for others just an episode

Abstract

"The receipt of social welfare benefits (unemployment benefits type II) is often long-lasting. Analysing individual biographies of recipients, however, reveals different typical trajectories. Some return to regular employment relatively soon after having received benefits. Others permanently depend on unemployment benefits type II. In between there is a number of other typical distinct trajectories. This can be shown with a sequence analysis tracing individuals from 2007 when they received unemployment benefits type II for their first time until 2014." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
