Job matching on non separated occupational labour markets

Abstract

What is examined, for partial occupational markets, is the matching process between persons looking for jobs and the jobs available. It is shown that these are separated neither from an empirical perspective nor from a theoretical one. To carry out this examination, the author applies spatial error models, spatial autoregressive models and a spatial Durbin model. In addition, he analyses a panel data set for 81 occupational groups and the period 1982 to 2007. Moreover he also refers to data from the Integrated Employment Histories. From this, change of job together with a change of occupational group is analysed and transition rates calculated. It becomes apparent that substantial dependencies in the matching process exist between neighbouring occupational groups. (IAB)
