Comparing basic income support recipients to employed persons: Unemployment benefit II recipient rate their health status lower

Abstract

"Based on the panel survey 'Labour Market and Social Security' (PASS), the paper describes the health situation of basic income support recipients in detail and compares it to employed persons' self-rated health, while controlling for age. Across all indicators unemployment benefit recipients rate their health status lower than supplementary benefit recipients who hold a job. Both of these groups rate their health status lower than employed persons without benefit receipt. Differences between groups are discussed with respect to health related behavior. Finally, it is shown that differences between recipients and employees are much larger in regions with low unemployment than in regions with high unemployment." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
