Labour Market Search and Placement during the Corona Crisis: Evidence from Daily Online Data
Abstract
"We use daily data of online activities on the job exchange platform of the German Federal Employment Agency and its internal placement software to measure the search intensity of employers and job seekers and – for the first time – the placement intensity of employment agencies. The data is used to investigate search and placement during the Corona pandemic 2020. The results show that search and placement activities dropped significantly and have not fully recovered yet. They suggest that the most critical effects of the Corona crisis on the labour market result from a lack of new hires." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
