Part-time work and leading positions

Abstract

With a view to the low presence of women in decision-making post, part-time work schemes might be an option to improve equal opportunities for men and women. First we analyse how the share of part-time work in leadership-positions has developed, if part-time arrangements at managerial level are more represented in specific occupations or industrial sectors and which factors prevent a more frequent use of part-time models. Furthermore we connect the analyses with working-time preferences of Managers. Therefore we consider the actually worked and desired amount of working hours of employees depending on their professional Status and context of their household. The analyses are based on the GSOEP and the German Labour Force Survey.
