The impact of long-term unemployment on labour participation and discouragement
Project duration: 31.10.2013 to 31.01.2014
Abstract
We estimate the impact of long-term unemployment on labour participation from a time-series perspective. The analysis is based on the hypotheses of discouragement and added worker effect. Decomposing the overall unemployment rate into long-term and short-term unemployment should allow a better understanding of the cyclical influence of unemployment on labor participation rates. Unemployment is defined according to the Federal Employment Agency. Labour participation rates are obtained from the German labour force survey.
