Gender aspects in recruitment processes
Project duration: 16.03.2009 to 31.12.2012
Abstract
The data base of our search is the German Job Vacancy Survey, which is representative for the whole economy. Additionally it gives information about job-filling processes. At this part of the questionnaire firms provide detailed information on recruitments during the previous twelve months, like job characteristics (required qualifications, special skills, working conditions, working time, etc.), characteristics of the hired person (age, sex, previous labour market status, etc.), information on recruitment channels and time and information on differences between the hired person and the desired profile. Based on these data we show differences between the recruitment of men and women. Our special focus is on women who are at the age to start a family or to have children already (family phase). We compare their recruitment firstly to the recruitment of younger and older women and secondly to the recruitment of men and identify different characteristics of firms (employers) and jobs. Given a certain number of male and female applicants, women in the family phase are recruited mainly for specific jobs and in specific firms only.
