Wage Inequality in Urban and Rural Districts
Project duration: 27.06.2019 to 13.12.2019
Abstract
In political debates on distributional justice, the focus is often on wage inequality at the macroeconomic level. New evaluations with IAB data show that wages can vary considerably not only between regions, but also within regions. On average, urban regions show higher wage inequality than rural areas, as both academics and foreign employees are overrepresented in metropolitan areas.
