Project duration: 01.03.2021 to 31.12.2022
Abstract
In this paper, we analyze the Impact of the EU Eastern Enlargement in 2004 on the local labor markets in German border areas toward the East. Using a recently compiled and georeferrenced dataset, it becomes feasible to compare grid cells near the border with similar grid cells in terms of socio-economic characteristics. Exploiting the Variation in the distance to the border, we identify the effects of the enlargement on employment and wages in Germany.
