Abstract

In parts of the system-relevant sectors and occupations, especially in the education and nursing occupations, there were already shortages of skilled workers before the Corona crisis and companies and administrations had reported recruitment problems, some of which were considerable. Based on representative data from the IAB job survey, the study now examines how the workforce in the system-relevant sectors developed further during the Corona crisis and to what extent there were further exacerbations of bottlenecks in the recruitment of new staff. The focus will also be on the development of working and wage conditions. The analyses are intended to underline the need for strategies to secure skilled labour in the system-relevant sectors in the long term, for which both employers and politicians bear responsibility.
