Labour market effekts of technical and structural change and of wage inequality in Germany

Abstract

The project examines the interdependencies between the labor market, wage inequality and (skill-biased) technical change. We examine whether wage inequality is harmful or whether it is the necessary price for a good labor market development. The role of skill-biased technical change as a source of wage inequality and its impact on the labor market and on productivity are also the subject of the investigations. Another research question is the role of technological and structural change for unemployment hysteresis. A special focus is on the qualification levels, which are primarily affected by the change. The aim is to draw conclusions for the Corona crisis.
