Project

The spatial effects of demographic change

Project duration: 02.01.2013 to 30.12.2016

Abstract

Germany’s population is currently undergoing a process of rapid ageing and shrinking, which is unparalleled in most other countries. This phenomenon motivates the projects’ research questions: will demographic development lead to economic stagnation or can shrinking cohorts be expected to have positive effects on labour-market outcomes? Furthermore, a better understanding of this process and its effects is relevant for many institutional regulations that govern the interplay between society and economy.
