The Persistence of Employment Gaps in Couples & the gender pay gap

Abstract

The gender gap in employment has narrowed but remains substantial, especially within couples. To examine the relationship between earnings potential and labour supply, I predict the potential earnings from demand-driven wage changes in work tasks within industries. In particular, the labour supply adjustments of men and women in partnerships, and the hours gap within couples are examined.
