Skill profiles in the green transition
Project duration: 30.08.2024 to 31.12.2029
Abstract
This project examines the relationship between the green transition and the changing skill requirements for employees. Further, it identifies occupation-specific transformation potentials and their relevance for various labour market aspects. We address the questions of how occupations requiring green, white, and brown skills differ in terms of their skill profiles, how these profiles change over time, and what transition opportunities or barriers may arise for employees as a result. For our econometric analyses, we use administrative data from the Federal Employment Agency at the employee level, the BERUFENET database from the Federal Employment Agency, and the Greenness-of-Jobs-Index (GOJI). The project also provides valuable insights for policymakers by identifying the skills that play a central role in the green transition, as well as the occupations and sociodemographic groups that already posses these skills. This knowledge can help to more effectively target labour market instruments during the green transition.
