A (Vignette-)Study on the Acceptance of Refugees
Project duration: 09.01.2023 to 31.12.2025
Abstract
The project investigates whether, and to what extent, attitudes towards different refugee groups change dependent on overall economic developments (e.g. general economic conditions, individual costs of living), the development of one’s personal life situation (e.g. unemployment, benefit receipt) or specific events (as they might occur e.g. during the future course of the war against the Ukraine). We will put a specific focus on refugees from the two last major migration waves (Syria and Ukraine). Doing so, we use a vignette-design, which extensively borrows from Czymara und Schmidt-Catran (2016, 2017). In contrast to them, we concentrate on refugees, not migration in general. By focusing on refugees from Ukraine our data will extend the current state of research as they are a very particular group of migrants (e.g. mostly female) and arrive in a period of adverse economic developments.
