Do minimum wages boost automation and outsourcing?
Project duration: 01.09.2020 to 31.12.2026
Abstract
The research project analyzes the long-term adjustments of firms and workers in response to the introduction of a minimum wage. The project is motivated by recent technological advances that allow firms to replace labor with machines or outsource production steps. However, little is known about how minimum wages affect firms' capital intensity and production organization and what their consequences are for wages, employment, and workforce composition.
