Geflüchtete aus der Ukraine in Deutschland: Eine Längsschnittstudie im Rahmen der IAB-BAMF-SOEP-Befragung von Geflüchteten
Project duration: 01.01.2023 to 31.12.2025
Abstract
The research project has three parts:First, it is examined how the special conditions of the war in Ukraine and the institutional and legal requirements for flight and admission in the member states of the EU and Germany affect the selectivity of refugee and return migration and thus the selectivity of the refugees. The aim is to gain new insights into (i) the selectivity of refugee migration from Ukraine with regard to demographic, socio-economic and personality characteristics, (ii) the connection between the course of the war in Ukraine and the associated uncertainty on the one hand and the selectivity of the refugees on the other hand, and (iii) the determinants of the selectivity of return migration are obtained. Comparisons with other groups of refugees and migrants are sought in order to analyze the effects of different contextual conditions.Secondly, the labor market integration of refugees from Ukraine is examined with a special focus on (i) the consequences of the uncertainty about the outcome of the war and the associated prospects of staying on host country-specific human capital investments and labor market integration, (ii) the gender-specific labor market developments from a dynamic perspective and ( iii) the effects of the specific institutional framework for refugees from Ukraine compared to other refugee and migrant groups on integration and participation. The investigations should be carried out in comparison with other refugee and migrant groups in order to gain insights into the possible influence of contextual factors.Thirdly, together with the SOEP partners, the aim is to develop a longitudinal data basis for research on refugee migration and the economic and social integration of refugees from Ukraine. Even if the greater part of the work on the data basis is assigned to work package 1 (Zinn and Liebig application), the applicants pursue the goal by (i) participating in the development of the survey instruments, (ii) quality assurance of the survey data, (iii) the linking of the survey data with the IEB data of the IAB and (iv) the complementary further development of the survey of other refugees as part of the IAB-BAMF-SOEP survey of refugees to make a contribution to the development of an excellent data infrastructure for research on refugee migration.
