Green and Digital Transformations in Online Job Ads - Adaptation Processes in Occupational and Regional Labor Demand
Project duration: 01.07.2020 to 30.06.2024
Abstract
Digital and environmental transformation are two significant trends that are expected to fundamentally change the structure of the economy and the labor market. The digital transformation towards "Working World 4.0" is the result of the considerable innovation push in the last decade regarding the opportunities for network integration and automation of work equipment, machines and consumer goods. The ecological transformation is accelerated by the current significant increase in climate and environmental protection measures. For the labor market, it is expected that skills and knowledge in the area of digital technologies will continue to gain in importance. On the other hand, sustainability-related job content is also playing an increasingly important role. For this reason, we assume that companies will adapt their requirements to include skills related to digital technologies or climate and environmental protection when filling new positions. We examine this assumption on the basis of job data from the Federal Employment Service's online job portal. In a first step, we describe the extent to which companies are actually seeking these specific skills at regional and occupational level. In a second step, we examine developments in more detail to determine whether these specific skills are actually expanding, to what extent patterns can be identified and how these developments can be explained in general.
