The IAB supports GradAB scholarship holders with a grant of 1,600 Euros per month.
Additional financial support:
- Family allowance of 155 Euros monthly if the net income of the spouse or partner does not exceed 15,340 Euros per year, or in case of custody for at least one child living in the household.
- Lump sum of 155 Euros per month for the first, 205 Euros for the second and each further child under the age of 18 living in the household, in case of child custody.
- Budget of 1,800 Euros per year for participation in scientific conferences, summer schools, further training and for other dissertation-relevant expenditures.
In accepting the scholarship, the scholarship holder commits himself/herself to participate in the study programme and to limiting his/her secondary gainful activities to a maximum of 10 hours per week (i.e. a "quarter job" in the German civil service).
The scholarship will be granted initially for one year and extended by one year each time upon application. For this purpose, the scholarship holder shall annually submit an interim report with the current progress of the project and an updated schedule. The funding period is usually three years, it may, however, be extended for one year.
GradAB doctoral students with a child are offered a part-time scholarship with a duration of up to five years. Here, too, an extension for one year is possible.
Additional funding for internships and research visits is available.
